LIQUID LAMINATION FOR YOUR CUSTOM STICKERS

The verdict is out on the importance of protecting and enhancing your custom stickers with a laminate finish. But do you know which lamination method best serves your end product? Mylar film lamination or liquid lamination?

Film vs. Liquid Lamination?

By default, film lamination is the most common application, not because it’s always the most appropriate, but simply because it’s the most accessible application for widespread commercial use. Consequently, it’s been widely adapted for DIY and print shops without many customizable options.

There are benefits to using traditional film lamination - the most obvious is the durability to withstand scratches, which comes with the thickness of the lamination. Film lamination adds extra bulk and less flexibility for your stickers, which might not be perfect for your end product.

Alternatively, liquid lamination offers solid protection against minor abrasions and is more flexible since it can be up to 23% thinner than one mil mylar film lamination.

Why Choose a Thin Lamination?

Film lamination is thicker than liquid lamination, leaving edges susceptible to collecting dust and debris. Film lamination also doesn’t adhere very well to uneven surfaces since it is so much less flexible than liquid lamination. This makes liquid lamination a better option if you wish to achieve a smoother finish that looks like it’s part of the product without sacrificing durability. When paired with a vinyl base material, liquid lamination become very flexible, so it forms with the substrate even when applied to uneven surfaces, giving you an ultra-smooth look.

How Is It Applied?

Liquid lamination involves applying a liquid coating using a roller application. The liquid is spread evenly across the surface and dries under UV light to form a protective layer.
